WHAT IS B-BBEE?

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) is a policy created to encourage businesses to help transform South Africa through the Codes of Good Practice (COGP).


Ownership:
Ownership is one of the three priority elements of the B-BBEE Scorecard which is a central theme of B-BBEE. Ownership aims to transfer part ownership of the productive assets in the South African economy to black people.

Management control:
Management Control is an element within B-BBEE that addresses certain issues surrounding black management and the control and/or decision making within the measured entity.

Skills development:
Skills Development is one of the three priority elements of the B-BBEE Scorecard. Skills Development measures a firm’s investment in the training and development of its black employees with the aim to align business growth with B-BBEE Strategies.

Enterprise & supplier development:
Enterprise- and Supplier Development is one of the three priority elements of the B-BBEE Scorecard. This element accounts for what a measured entity does to support small black owned South African businesses.

Preferential Procurement:
Preferential Procurement is one of the three priority elements of the B-BBEE Scorecard. This element aims to address key issues surrounding supplier opportunities for B-BBEE compliant enterprises and to support and develop local empowered businesses to grow South Africa’s Economy.

Socio-economic development:
This element is the monetary and non-monetary contributions which are implemented with the objective of facilitating income-generating activities for the intended black South African beneficiaries.
